Event Details

ClimbOn is an adventure club affiliated with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), based in Hyderabad, that brings adventure enthusiasts together. Our motto is to promote outdoor adventure and rock climbing as a sport. We facilitate fun, informative, inspirational, and recreational outdoor adventure experiences by organizing activities like trekking, outdoor climbing, hiking, bouldering, camping, adventure treks, sports, fitness events, and more.

We are excited to present the 8th edition of our Basic Mountaineering Course. This course offers comprehensive training for adventure enthusiasts and is specifically designed to equip ClimbOn organizers with essential mountaineering skills. It also provides a valuable opportunity for some of our most active members to learn fundamental mountaineering and survival techniques.

Course Details:
Dates: December 5th, 2 PM to December 12th, 5 PM
Age Criteria: 18+
Event Duration: 7N /8D
Chief Instructor: Ashim Majumdar (Certified in Basic Mountaineering Course and Advanced Mountaineering)
Field and Practical Trainers: Sasi, Madhu, and Support Team (BMC-trained organizers)

Itinerary

Day 0
Arrival to Camp

Arrival at the camp, documentation and disclaimer process, campsite cleaning, dinner and briefing for the following day.

Day 1
Campsite Management & Training Introduction

Introduction to the training structure, campsite responsibilities and the foundation of the practical program.

Day 2
Climbing Activities

Practical climbing activities, rope work, movement and supervised climbing sessions.

Day 3
Complete Day of Rappelling Activities

Rappelling equipment, rope handling, descending techniques and practical supervised sessions.

Day 4
Endurance Testing & Rappelling

Endurance-oriented outdoor activities combined with additional rappelling training and practical challenges.

Day 5
Cross a Range of Difficult Terrain

Practical movement through challenging terrain while applying skills learned during the earlier sessions.

Day 6
Task-Oriented Practical Examination

Participants demonstrate their learning through practical, task-oriented activities.

Day 7
Farewell Day

Final activities, feedback, participant interaction and official completion of the training.

Highlights

Climbing

Regular classes on climbing techniques and gear. You will learn about side, upper, and lower grips, and practice them regularly on walls, trees, and rocks. For wall climbing, we will practice using both top and bottom belays, while for rock climbing, we will focus on bouldering and climbing with the use of pitons.

Rappelling

We will practice different types of rappelling, including shoulder, abseiling, and Australian rappelling. You will learn the importance of belaying and practice providing belay support to other participants.

Forest Survival Techniques

Have you ever stayed alone in a forest or cooked while backpacking? After this course, you'll be an expert in these skills. You will learn more about camping, cooking in the wilderness, and staying aware of animals in a forest environment.

Compass Reading

Learn how to read a compass to determine directions, a vital skill for hiking and trekking.

Mountaineering Gear

Learn the proper use of ropes, harnesses, pitons, carabiners, belay devices, and figure-eight knots in the day-to-day practice of various mountaineering techniques.

Different Types of Knots

ClimbOn will offer regular classes on different knots used in mountaineering techniques, such as rappelling, tree climbing, and wall climbing. Be sure to practice these daily, even after the course ends.

Self-defense

Learn self-defense techniques against both animal and human attacks, which are useful in trekking and everyday life.

Things to Wear / Carry

Clothing
  • Comfortable track pants or trousers. Strictly no jeans or shorts.
  • T-shirt, preferably long-sleeved.
  • Shoes with good sole grip are a must. Strictly no sandals or chappals.
  • Cap, hat, goggles, and sunscreen.
  • Sweater and raincoat as per the weather.
  • Do not leave long hair open, especially for rappelling. Hair should not cover your face or eyes.
  • No jewelry, including finger rings or earrings.
  • Clip finger and toe nails to a comfortable length. Long nails are absolutely not allowed.
Packing List
  • Two liters of water per person.
  • Vegetables like cucumber, carrot, and radish. Fruits like banana, dates, apple, and orange.
  • Minimal snacks, energy drinks (ORS, Electral), and dry fruits for the hike.
  • A small backpack to carry the above items.
  • One cover to carry your trash from the venue.
