About:
The Patta and Aundha twin forts form a striking historical and volcanic landscape within the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Rising to 4,560 feet, Patta Fort, famously renamed Vishramgad, features a sprawling high-altitude plateau where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj rested in 1679, now uniquely shared with a massive modern windmill farm. Directly adjacent stands Aundha Fort at 4,300 feet, a medieval Yadava dynasty watchtower shaped like a narrow volcanic cone. Connected by a single mountain ridge, the terrain transitions from the wide, gentle slopes of Patta to a steep mountain scramble on Aundha that culminates in a technical 25-foot vertical rock pinnacle. Surrounded by remote tribal hamlets and offering panoramic views of the Kalsubai range, these companion peaks form a pristine Sahyadri wilderness where ancient Maratha heritage meets raw mountain topography.
